You can go home again (at least for a latte)
Spotted at the uber-hangout Cafe Borrone last Saturday was TV and film actor James Franco, he of "Spider-Man," "Flyboys" and "Freaks and Geeks."Ooh, I sound like a gossip columnist. If only I knew what he'd been wearing. But my secret source, who surely wasn't Weekly film critic Tyler Hanley, somehow didn't notice this crucial piece of information.
Not surprising that Monsieur Franco should be around these parts. He's a Palo Alto native and a Paly graduate. And, according to someone who could have been Tyler, he seems like a friendly guy who doesn't mind being recognized. See? We grow 'em nice.

James Franco was in good spirits at the cafe that afternoon. He was laughing and talking with a friend, well-dressed and sporting a warm-looking scarf. Although many of the patrons were glancing over at him and whispering to one another, Franco never appeared irritated or smug. In fact, he looked to be merely enjoying spending time with a friend and seemed to appreciate being home and the brief respite from the big lights of Hollywood. He was an appreciative gentleman when I complimented him on his performance as Harry Osborn in the "Spider-Man" films. It's nice to know a modest and successful actor has come from Palo Alto.

I stand corrected. I should have mentioned the scarf. ;)
Next time we see a celebrity in our area, we'll do a whole red-carpet commentary. Tyler, you get to bring the camera.

My daughter Marina got to hang out with James for a whole evening, due to having some mutual Paly friends, and reported that he is indeed a genuinely nice guy. They got to go upstairs at Nola's even though it was closed so that he could have some privacy... :-)
Besides the scarf, he was also sporting a lovely young lady, petite, blonde and buxom, a Hollywood starlet who, per Marina, was very LA, but was also friendly and sweet...
Marina spent two years in LA, and says that James is not "infected" at all by all his stardom-- she was impressed with what a down-home guy he is...

Both of you guys are gossip columnists. Rebecca, did you ever read that book I left for you?

Ooh, now I'm reminded that "Nemesis of Evil" (intriguing name, sir) left a copy of Jeff Long's "The Descent" for me. I admit it was buried in a pile on my desk, but now I'll check it out. If it gives me nightmares, Nemesis of Evil, you're in trouble. ;)
