Help wanted. Or not.

Reader Laurie Naiman, who has won many honors in the Weekly's annual photo competition, was kind enough to send me this terrific picture.

Naiman snapped it at the Sears department store in Mountain View that's in the process of selling things wildly before closing. (Great place to buy $10 T-shirts!)

Quips the photographer: "I think the image cries out for a caption, like 'Pension benefits not included.'"

  • My Uncle Laurie Naiman has always had a quiet, droll sense of humour that speaks volumes through his Ironic photographic eye. Why not run a "caption contest like the ""The New Yorker" does at the back of the magazine each week with its cartoons. It might be an amusing interactive way to draw in readers. Especially if you can dream up a prize.
Thanks for publishing this photo. My husband Marty Lager and I got a real giggle out of it.
    Cheers,

  • This is a great picture - it says so much. It's also sad. I remember when the store was built and what a great attraction it was to watch the palm trees brought in and put in place -- it was quite an event. It was a time of building - new malls, homes going up everywhere. Times change and it's funny how we become attached to things because they remind us of how things used to be.
